Antique French Wicker Children’s School Lunch Or Market Lidded Basket 1870-1900s.
Adorable woven french basket that children used to bring lunch to school. Ive also seen them called Market Baskets. Excellent shape wicker but the leather closure hasn’t held up as well.
Treated with Wood Juice, a restoration product made for museums that stops wood decay and dryness, and gives it a beautiful healthy glow. We are currently treating the leather with a leather restorative made for leather that is found in water or buried and discovered on archeological digs. The leather restorative is also a museum product and all data can be found at preservation-solutions.
This basket was discovered in CT after an antique store liquidation. It was marked as an Asian basket with an insane price tag but we are fairly confident that this IS a French basket.
Please examine pics. There are tiny holes on the underside that may be insect damage but there was no signs of the insect or more damage anywhere else.
Please ask me anything! And allow the pics to guide you more than my words. They know the truth! If you see a mistake in my listing I welcome new information always!
